Visiting the Frick Art Research Library

This guide provides information about the Frick Art Research Library and offers helpful tips for planning and making the most of your visit.

Registration

Advance registration is required for first-time researchers to visit the Frick Art Research Library and use its services.

You must be 13 years of age or older to register.

You will receive an email with a temporary barcode number and instructions to change your account password within 3 business days of registration.

Requests

Advance request of items through the catalog is required using your barcode number and personal password for consultation in the reading room.

You will receive notifications by email when your requests are available for consultation.

Up to 10 requests can be placed at a time.

Contact the library or ask a librarian at the reference desk in the reading room if assistance is needed for requesting items through the catalog.

Reading Room Admission Guidelines

  • All food, drinks, candy, and gum are not permitted in the reading room.
  • Bags that exceed the dimensions of 9” x 12” x 3” and outerwear must be checked in the Coat Check located on Floor C when the galleries are open or in the Research Library Entrance Hall on Floor 1 when the galleries are closed.
  • All laptop and camera cases must be checked.
  • Luggage is not permitted and will not be checked.
  • The use of highlighters, felt tip pens, fountain pens, sticky notes, or other office supplies is not permitted.
  • Pencils are encouraged. Ballpoint pens can be used if needed.
  • Digital cameras can be used in the reading room to photograph collection items.
  • Laptops, tablets, and smartphones can be used in the reading room. There is limited access to public computers that are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You are encouraged to bring your own laptop, tablet, or smartphone.
  • The use of electronic devices with sound is not permitted. Please headphones if needed.
